You Can Build it Fast or Build it Right, But You Can’t Do Both

constructionworkerThere’s a saying that I’ve heard from home builders and in other contexts, and it goes like this: “You can build it fast, or you can build it right, but you can’t do both.”

There’s a right way and a fast way to build business. The right way takes time, effort, authenticity and integrity.

The fast — and wrong — way takes less effort initially, and profits can often skyrocket, but the ultimate result is destruction: bitter customers, severed relationships, financial misery, and more.

Max is dedicated to building our company the right way. While technology requires us to move fast and be nimble and agile in some areas, we vow to never compromise our principles in the pursuit of a quick buck.

And you need to do the same with your business.

Don’t be a “hare” businessperson: a slick-dressing, fast-talking salesman who will do anything to make a sale. Rather, be the “turtle”: a legitimate builder with a long-term perspective and the patience to do things the right way the first time.

Build solid relationships of trust. Demonstrate through service that you genuinely care about your prospects, customers and team members.

Never, ever compromise your ethical values in the pursuit of money. Instead, put them at the forefront of all your business efforts. Make them your constant focus and your ultimate goal, and trust that good money follows doing good things.

Just as Max strives to maintain “A” company status, you need to do the same in your business.

As we explain in our e-book, The Max Code:

“’A’ companies…are consistently engaged in the pursuit of ideals, and never is this quest compromised to cater to expediency. They are guided by ethical values and their path is made straight through integrity.

“’A’ companies are wise and caring stewards of people, resources, and the environment. They adhere to principles and are driven by a tangible sense of social responsibility. They exist to serve people and make the world better and more sustainable. ‘A’ companies give more than they take, produce more than they consume.

“‘A’ companies are not perfect, but they are authentic and transparent. They do not sweep mistakes under the rug of avoidance or cover them up with the make-up of public relations campaigns.

“‘A’ companies take full responsibility for their mistakes, learn from them, and build on them. ‘A’ companies don’t operate behind glossy, hyped façades. They radiate a down-to-earth, dyed-in-the-wool, wholesome, and legitimate goodness.

“…The reward of belonging and contributing to such an organization is knowing that you are making a difference in the
world, while also providing for your family and doing the things that matter most in your life. You are doing good while
doing well.”

Are you trying to make a buck today, or building something that will last and continuing producing for years?
