An Iceberg of Leadership
By Carl Woolston
Most people have a similar sense and expectation of what we want from our leaders.
We want someone who has a vision that inspires in us possibilities for a better future, whatever that may mean to us in terms of a better life.
For some, a better life may mean financial success, others it may mean stronger families, and yet others, a strong society and nation.
Whatever aspiration it is that we have, when we follow a leader we have a need to share their perspective and trust in the ability they have to help us reach those possibilities.
There have always been those who show signs of leadership, but in the end, their words become as empty as an echoing canyon.
They spoke well. They had motivation. They inspired. Yet, in the end they did not execute their vision.
Their followers too often become disenchanted, blaming the philosophy or principles, instead of learning from their mistakes, picking up the pieces, and moving on.
Whatever the specific fallout on a shared and failed vision becomes, one thing is for certain: There is a trail of destruction behind those who do not execute or follow through.
Perhaps the most difficult task of true leadership is the sweat and work of early mornings and late nights toward a goal that is daunting.
The ability to do what you say and complete what you envision is one the most difficult part of leadership because it is rarely seen.
The masses don’t see the private commitment to excellence. They only see the outward achievement and glory.
It is like a great iceberg — eighty to ninety percent of the work occurs below the surface where nobody sees.
True leadership is a private commitment of a soul committed to greatness, inspired by a vision, many times by a higher power.
Max Living is creating a culture and community of those who are looking to make a commitment to a prosperous and free society, to strong family, and to successful and ethical business.
Our hope is that we may combine our efforts for influence — the intentional influence for better education, tools, action, and inspiration toward a better society.
