Thoughts are Things
By Carl Woolston
“I hold it true that thoughts are things;
They’re endowed with bodies and breath and wings;
And that we send them forth to fill
The world with good results, or ill.That which we call our secret thought
Speeds forth to earth’s remotest spot,
Leaving its blessings or its woes
Like tracks behind it as it goes.We build our future, thought by thought,
For good or ill, yet know it not.
Yet, so the universe was wrought.
Thought is another name for fate;
Choose, then, thy destiny and wait.
For love brings love and hate brings hate.”
-Henry Van Dyke
The concept of a self-fulfilling prophecy is certainly a widely-accepted belief. More and more people are recognizing how much impact one’s thoughts have in their daily life.
Each thought can and should be viewed as a thing that will directly help cultivate our lives or impede our progresses.
Positive thoughts can carve paths that can lead to a full and happy life just as an irrigation ditch can be carved out to lead water tranquilly though a field offering nourishment to its crops.
These thoughts can enable our lives to flourish and thrive so that it can always be harvesting season.
However, negative thoughts act as barriers in our “irrigation ditches.” As these build up the water that could have been tranquilly guiding our lives can become blocked and can eventually flood the field and kill all of the crops that were to be harvested.
Often our thoughts are a result of the reality we have created for ourselves. A surrounding full of good books, good friends and other positive influences can help to carve a path toward tranquility and ultimately fulfillment.

I totally agree with this concept and have experienced it in my life. I am a firm believer in Napoleon Hill’s “whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve” Filling our head/mind/brain with good, positive “mental food” is a big part of it. Great article!
