Weekly Quote: Smiling in Trouble by Thomas Paine

“I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. ‘Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.” –Thomas Paine

  1. I always love looking for the silver lining in any cloud, and the rainbows in every rain. Every problem is an opportunity in disguise. What Mr Paine really reflects on is a choice to look for the best and put our best face forward – it shows attitude controlled and the attitude of gratitude.

  2. Keeping your goals in front of you , Persistience ( don”t give give up on yourself ) , you may be only 3 feet
    from the Gold .

I love this quote by Thomas Paine. It is a great illustration of a person with deep faith, who knows without a shadow of a doubt, what his goal in life is. Life has ups & downs, that is to be expected. The down times are a time to reflect & grow stronger. Up times are a time to be grateful for. And being an example to others is important to remember at all times.
I consider myself like a mighty oak, deeply rooted. Some leaves will fall when it’s time and after a period of rest fresh new leaves will grow. I grow stronger with the passage of each season.

I think it is a great quote however, I also think that there is a great deal of danger in that saying. There are people who on the outside look as if they are happy and life is just the way they want it to be and inside they are dying or harbouring a great deal of anger or fear. They have not really dealt with the issues that are festering inside of them and if that is the case they are like a volcano that is ready to erupt looking very harmless from the outside. Unless we consciously deal with our emotions and acknowledge that they are there and observe them as they appear we are harmful to ourselves and others. If we are aware and handling our emotions and we are consciously making a choose to be smiling even when in trouble we are in power of our emotions and are deciding how we want to express that outwardly.
